Tim Horton's Oreo Iced Capp Review

WE'VE MOVED TO WORDPRESS
All of the posts are now on going to be on WORDPRESS! This blog will be deleted in a couple of weeks be sure to follow the new Broke and Picky! - brokeandpicky.wordpress.com

It is Mother's Day and so far it's been an excellent day(6-0 city what, what!), so good that I felt it was time to start reviewing food items. So originally I was going to head to Dairy Queen and grab one of the blizzards to start. Since it is Mother's day I figured I go to the place my own mother started working at when she first came to Canada - Tim Hortons.

I don't know if you noticed but as the years went by Tim Hortons has been doing a lot to, I guess, reinvent some of their products. This is seen with them adding new options like the fruit smoothies, frozen lemonade & iced coffee. Some of their more adventurous items involve collaborations with famous food items for example, I don't know if you remember the Candy Bar Supreme which was topped with M&M's and filled with a delectable chocolate filling. Now Tim's are collaborating with 2 popular food titans Nutella and Oreos.

Now I could go on about the Nutella products like any right individual would do. However it's a hot, overcast day today and i need something COLD. When I was on my way to Tims, I started to really think about what I wanted to get there. I knew for a fact I was getting something that was cream based. To my benefit Tims released two speciality cold products for the upcoming summer - Creamy Chocolate Chill & The Oreo Iced Capp.

Funny enough when I was on my way to Tims I was edging towards the Chocolate chill, but then I found this:

The same Chocolate Chill just chillin beside the construction sign, half full. From there the Oreo won my decision and I arrived to Tims in no time confident what was I going to order. The person who wasn't confident was the girl in front of me who let me go ahead to order (thank you for that).

Now onto the actual Iced Capp. I haven't ordered an Iced Capp in what feels like years, not because I didn't like it I always found it delicious. However on a hot day I always thought there were better things to get whether it be from Tims or elsewhere. I ordered the small which came up to $2.98 in total. Mind you I've never seen this thing in person, so I didn't know if it were going to turn out like the picture on the menu looked or even worse(McDonalds is notorious for this).

The Oreo Iced Capp consists of:
  • The original Iced Capp.
  • Cookies & Cream Flavour shot
  • Whipped Cream
  • Oreo Crumble (topped off and mixed in)
Who knew Tims could add sex appeal to their precious drink?

For those that were worried that the Iced Capp has lost its flavour over the years, I'm glad to let you know that it's still the same Iced Capp that I remembered drinking when it first came out. Creamy, smooth and a non-overbearing cappuccino taste.
(apologies about the sideways pic)

So what was interesting about this drink is that the top actually sinks in. The Oreo topping becomes more spread out once you drink past the brim of the cup. You should start devouring it in an instant since the topping practically spills over the cup and after that point you can do the one thing that all Iced Capp drinks do, stir.

Whipped cream was being difficult today.

The drink is still smoother than the other Iced Capps I've had over time and with the Oreo crumbles it adds a really nice crunch that combines with the drink surprisingly well. It was nice to drink it until it got near the end of the cup where its just bare whipped cream. For the first time ever I drank an Iced Capp and I ran out of that smooth cappuccino flavour I was talking about earlier and hitting hard to sip whipped cream. At that point I gave up drinking it because it got to the point where it didn't make sense to try to finish it and I really didn't feel like scooping out whipped cream with a straw. Overall though, I was pretty underwhelmed with the lack of cookie flavour however, though it had Oreo crumbs on the top and all throughout the drink. The drink really lacked balance and overall just tasted like a crunchy Iced Capp with whipped cream.

Final Verdict

6.5/10

In a drink that was supposed to be a beautiful love affair, was instead a battle of flavours between Tims Iced Capp & Oreos and the Oreos lost... pretty badly.

Positives
  • Taste: The Iced Capp has become one of Tim's main drivers and I can see why. Not only does it taste great and it's a smooth alternative to other frap style drinks. The Oreo Crunch is a surprising aspect that I think Tims should explore more into.
  • Price: Compared to the Starbucks & Second Cups out there this is pretty cheap I mean at $3.00 for a small, you get a pretty satisfying drink.
  • Look: Honestly, with Starbucks and other coffee places being the designers that they are with their various frozen drinks. Tims actually goes with a simple Oreo look that really works and gets its message across - it's Tims best frozen drink with the one of the most iconic cookies of all time.
Negatives

  • Taste: At the end of the day this is an OREO ICED CAPP, why the cookie flavour lacking is beyond me. Believe or not I barely tasted anything resembling chocolate or cookies. The cream was definitely there though and there was lots.
  • Price: Again $3.00 isn't bad but if you're really craving that a fancy Iced Capp however I advise you to either get the Iced Coffee - with a Cookie & Cream Flavour shot (Small is $1.00 right now, $.25 for the flavour shot.) or go for the real deal and hit up Starbucks and treat yourself to the Cookies & Cream Frappuccino
Once again thank you for reading broke & p1cky and if you enjoyed this don't forget to share with friends!
